This term we have been learning about Mechanisms focussing on wheels and axles. Our project was to design, make and evaluate a small, scale wheeled trolley for The Lonely Beast to carry his garden tools. The children began by completing some research about wheeled products that already exist. They then completed some focussed practical tasks, where they learned how to create wheels and then attach the wheels to the axles. They also learned about fixed and free moving axles. Next came the design task where the children worked in groups to design their trolleys. After that, the children worked together to create their trolleys. Finally, they evaluated their product thinking carefully about what went well and what they would change.
