Catholic Social Teaching is based on the belief that God has a plan for creation, a plan to build his kingdom of peace, love and justice. It holds that God has a special plan for every single one of us, whoever we are. Our part in this plan isn’t just limited to things ‘spiritual’, or times when we do “religious things.” It involves every aspect of our lives, from the things we pray about, to how we live as a responsible global citizen.
The principles of social teaching relate with all that we do at Holy Family; through the curriculum and events.
The principles we focus on also align to our school values.
To help us put our call into action of making the world the best possible place it can be, and as God intended it to be when He gave it to mankind as a gift, we focus on 6 themes of Catholic Social Teaching:
Term | Principles of Catholic Social Teaching |
---|---|
Autumn 1 | Stewardship (Care of Creation) - We must care for the many gifts that God has given to us. |
Autumn 2 | Preferential Option for the Poor - Jesus taught that when we feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, look after the sick and visit those imprisoned, we are looking after Him. |
Spring 1 | Solidarity - God created us as one global family called to support our brothers and sisters. |
Spring 2 | Common Good - The Common Good is about respecting the rights and responsibilities of all people leaving no one behind. |
Summer 1 | Dignity of Workers - Everyone has the right to access the means to support themselves and their family. |
Summer 2 | Human Dignity - Our common humanity requires that we respect and uphold the dignity of each human being. Everything else flows from this dignity. |
Each half term, we dedicate two assemblies and a class 'Together we Pray' session on a principle of Catholic Social Teaching (CST).
During the assemblies we identify how CST can enable us to understand the outward show or action of our Catholic faith that will impact on many aspects of our life and, in turn, lead us to making an impact on the world so it can be as God intended it to be.
