I am Miss Birds, class teacher of Year 5. I am in my second year of teaching here at Holy Family. There are many different topics we cover this year including properties and changes of materials, Anglo-Saxons and Central America. We cover some amazing artists in Art such as Peter Thorpe and Harriet Powers. Year 5 have the important role of presenting the Easter Liturgy. 

We will also share updates and highlights on Seesaw as we progress through the school year. Our aim is to create a learning environment where children walk in the footsteps of Jesus and follow our school values; Passionate about Learning, Together we Succeed, We care about Respect and Growing our Hearts and Minds.

Year 5's School Trip

Year 5 had an exciting and educational visit to the Science and Industry Museum, where their learning linked closely with their computing topic on game creation. During a special “Power Up” session, the children explored how games are designed and played, helping them to develop ideas for their own creations back at school. They experimented in the interactive gallery, trying out different activities and discovering how technology and creativity work together.

The visit also included a fascinating textiles show, where pupils learned about the properties of different materials. They observed how fabrics are made and discussed why certain materials are chosen for specific purposes. This helped deepen their understanding of materials in a real-world context.

Overall, the trip was a great success, combining computing, science, and hands-on experiences to inspire curiosity and creativity in all the children.
